In Ethiopia, hiking is a popular activity, given the country’s diverse landscapes, highlands, mountains, and crater lakes. Hiking is generally used to describe long, vigorous walks on trails or off-trail in natural areas, including mountainous regions, national parks, and volcanic craters. Shorter or urban walks are usually called walking, while trekking is sometimes used for multi-day hikes through remote regions.
In regions such as the Simien Mountains, Bale Mountains, and the area around Lake Wonchi, hiking involves navigating steep terrain, high-altitude paths, and scenic landscapes, making it suitable for moderately experienced hikers.
